Americans 'want online gambling legalised'
[14-12-05]

The majority of Americans want online gambling legalised, at least according to the latest online poll.

Scooop.net's survey has found that 67 per cent of Americans feel that US-based casinos should be allowed to run online casino gaming websites in the US.

However, critics have dismissed the poll as inaccurate, as it does not give any indication or authentication of the sample group used.

Nevertheless, the poll is one of a growing number of voices in the online world which are calling out for internet gambling to be legalised on mainland USA.

Interestingly, the Scooop.net poll also revealed that over half of all pollsters felt the US government should stay out of regulating the internet activity of gamers, as the web is really a "borderless community" that "crosses international lines", according to the Online-Casinos website.

The debate over whether to legalise online poker and casino gambling sites in the US continues to roll on, as critics claim the 1961 Wire Act - which was passed to keep illegal bookmakers from taking bets overseas by phone – is outdated and the multi-billion pound online gaming industry should be embraced by the US government.
