'Rogue trader' Leeson hits high with online poker
[13-01-06]

Rogue trader Nick Leeson – the man who almost single-handedly brought down Barings Bank by losing almost £1 billion on the stock exchange – has resurfaced as an online poker player on a 'celebrity' poker site.

Mr Leeson was reportedly introduced to online poker by former footballer and part-time movie actor Vinnie Jones, but what appears to have started out as a hobby now looks to be Mr Leeson's main source of income.

According to Celebpoker.com, Mr Leeson won $25,000 (£14,000) last week alone in a no-limits cash game on the site.

But it looks like Mr Leeson is being more careful with his own money than he has been previously, according to Finextra.

Mr Leeson said: "The returns on the money can be phenomenal but I am well aware that I can lose too, so I won't be repeating the mistakes I made in the past."

In 1995, Mr Leeson was jailed after losing millions of pounds betting Barings bank's money on interest rate movements as an investment operations officer in Singapore.
